It’s so funny, because MIA is not Madonna, or Nicki, or even a Janet Jackson for that matter. Meaning to say her career and her success really does not depend on the sort of individuals who are going to blow this out of proportion and call her out for being indecent and poisoning the children of America’s minds. She really had nothing to lose and has nothing at stake - judging by all the gifs, photosets, and screencaps of this moment I think if anything it’s helped her. So smart. 

She is smart - knowing the arena and the past history of so-called ‘controversies,’ the middle finger is just her small act against America’s petty obsession with keeping the airwaves and media “clean.” SHE DON’T GIVE A SHIT, read her verse, and she’s not subtle about it either haha. Her face in both the video and this performance says it all, tbh. A look of apathy yet she knows she’s profiting more than anyone. I love her. *_*

aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah godaaaaaaaaaaaaaaamn i can’t even tell you how much i love m.i.a. for this. i was already swooning after seeing the bad girls video was released last week, but this put my love over the top.

that part when she was putting the pom poms in front of madonna facing nicki minaj? you can tell they’re both like “we know we are a parody of ourselves/of femininity/of pop stars and we’re totally fucking with you” and it makes me SQUEAL with delight. seriously, go back and look at her face and tell me that is not exactly how you would expect m.i.a. to act.

(also this is a reminder of all the m.i.a. hate that was going on on jezebel a while back, which was one of the many reasons i stopped reading that website.)
